I am wondering if there is a way to find out what process on my computer is using the most power. I am using a Macbook Pro 2009 Unibody and over the last month or so my battery performance has dropped drastically. I am always at my desk, but this seems weird why it would suddenly use more power.

it is more likely to be your battery is getting old. when you can it is best to have the laptop plugged in. the best way too tell what process is using the most power is by the resource usage it has. there is no way as far as i know to tell in watts or volts

Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor

You can see all running tasks and close whatever ones that you don't want running. Finder takes up some of your resources, and you can close it if you have Secrets Preference Pane installed on your computer. It will be located in your System Preferences under Other.
All you have to do is select Enable Finder Quit menu item, and if you aren't using finder, just a web browser or something, then you won't need to have Finder open, so you can save the most resources you can.
