Okay so here's a question for all the mega-nerds to go to town on. I've got a motherboard with two DDR2 slots - maximum of 800MHz in the specs, (Asus M2N-MX SE). The CPU is a 3.0GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ It already has two 1GB 667Mhz DDR2 sticks and works fine. But I have a 2GB 800MHz stick. At first I thought I might just swap one out and get 3GB of memory, but the computer would drop it down to 667MHz as well. However, I wondered if that's as good an idea as 2GB at 800MHz. And I don't know if there's any advantage to having 2x1GB instead of 1xGB in the first place. Thoughts? I'm fairly computer savvy, (enough to discover that my graphics intensive games were slowing down after a few minutes of play because my GeForce 8400gs graphics card had a dead cooling fan), but I must admit I have no idea what to expect from these different memory configurations. Edit: I just installed Windows 7, (32 bit), by the way. |

I would have the 3GB @ 667Mhz. it has more memory for you to use and dual channel is faster than only having one stick. after that you could always get another 2gb stick and replace a 1gb with that |
