What has your experience been like with the broadband you're using at home?

I have been with BT Total Broadband for about 3 years now and I'm deeply unsatisfied. I'm on a "up to" 20 meg package with wireless N connectivity and get a pathetic 512KB download speed, random disconnections and an overall poor service. I contacted BT numerous times and got absolutely no where with them. Once my contract expires I will be moving to another company that can offer a better speed.

So, what's your experience been like?

At home there is DMAX (>.>) of 512KBps, and it drops a lot. One day dropped like more than 10 times in intervals of 10 minutes. Normally it downloaded with a maximum of average 40KB/s with torrents and 30KB/s downloading from Firefox. After calling support, now the speed is at 60-100KB/s torrents, same in Firefox. Still, it keeps dropping a lot. It is annoying that a Skype call cuts suddenly or that I can't fully download something or access courses informations every certain time..

I have a 16meg package from Comcast. At one point I switched to a higher tier and the speeds were the same. In real life situations like movie watching and gaming, the speed never seems to be enough for me. Mix in a backup service like Spider Oak and it all falls apart. I have not met a broadband connection that could handle me. Nothing is scaled yet for such things in my opinion, at least all at once.

I unfortunately live in an area that technology has left far behind. In my town we have the option for 6 Mb/s DSL with AT&T (Which is what I have) or 8 Mb/s Cable from the local cable company (Which is actually the same speed as their 3 mb/s service). So, that being said, all of my experience with broadband has been bad.

I have Comcast internet I don't know how fast it is supposed to be but when I run a speed test I get about 30 Mbps I have seen it jump to 75 before but I think that was just a problem with the test.

I've used Verizon (now Frontier) broadband and have been very satisfied with my DSL service.

I've had them for about 7 years now (with the same modem!).

I check my speed every once in a while to make sure I'm getting good results by using http://mydslspeedtest.com
