Imagine if they did some addon like that today. (like having an addon on the PS3 that let you play xbox games). There will be lawsuits up the butt

I really want a Mac Pro maxed out, but the closest that I am right now is an iMac (2 generations old). I have high hopes of working at an Apple retail store so that I can get 25% off of one of their Macs. I would probably get a Macbook Pro though (to impress my friends, and to have a good computer while traveling and such).

I thought it was old tech but a maxed out Mac Pro sounds nice...

A maxed out Mac Pro isn't really old, but definitely would be amazing! xD

Oops, I skimmed the question and didn't see that it said old tech. I would probably want the original Macintosh.

Buying anything from Apple "maxed out" is a huge waste of money. All of the upgrades are commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and inexpensive if sourced elsewhere.

You really think that I'd buy my RAM through Apple. You can max out a Mac without using the hardware that they give you.

(Sep 27 '10 at 08:39) catchatyou catchatyou's gravatar image

Well, "maxed out" implies buying it "maxed out" from the factory.

I'm not sure where I implied that I was maxing it out through the online store. I can assure you that I would not be paying $3,550.00 just for RAM. I'm not the biggest fan of building computers (because I can't legally put OS X on it), but I could build a pretty nice computer for $3,550.00 (USD).

one thing i have wanted for a while is the IBM PC Technical Reference Manual which basically told you how to make a PC... it truly is what revolutionized personal computers...

ok so its a book and not really technology, i would still like it...

Wow, this question just made me pass an hour in what felt like minutes.

I want an Apple Newton 2100 Message Pad. (I then spent an hour searching eBay for one I can buy). Great Question :D

I'd love a working Edison Phonograph. I don't own one, but my parents do. They used to buy antiques when they were younger, and the phonograph is one of their best conversation pieces (pun intended ;-)

This isn't theirs; just a random photo I grabbed that looks similar enough to theirs, but the pictured phonograph is lacking the "bell"/cone that projects the sound outward.

I wish I had a dreamcast. I always wonder what would have happened if Nintendo went under instead of Sega (in the console market).

Same here. It's an amazing gaming system. Too bad the project/design never went any further

Think about it. I could flip a tank. Or push a car down a high way. Or I could get shot and not get hurt. Or I could pick up heavy stuff. Or I could get to use it on Halloween.

The suit doesn't make you do all that stuff. Genetic modification does. The suit would just make you look more bad-ass while doing it. ;)

(Oct 11 '10 at 11:27) Justin Justin's gravatar image

Actually, it's a combination of both.

A LaserDisc player, Betamax player, maybe an old Atari console.

The MaximumPC Dream Machine 2010, as well as a 30-inch 3D vision monitor (if they even make those yet).

the idea was old technology, and you wouldn't need the most powerful pc out there. most likely a core 2 quad/phenom x4 and 4-6gb ram for most home users/enthusiast. you only need that sort of power when you are running massive programs and lots of them at the same time, and even then it is considered as overkill

(Sep 27 '10 at 01:55) Tim Fontana Tim%20Fontana's gravatar image

True. I just want to be able to brag to my friends about my PC, even though the majority of my friends aren't tech-savvy enough to care.

(Sep 27 '10 at 02:16) Gorkon5567 Gorkon5567's gravatar image

yeh, thats my problem i have a core 2 quad and my friend bought a quad core iMac and my other friend runs in going omg so and so got a new mac, its amazing, IT HAS 4 CORES, i was like orly? not like I had that for the last year or so :L. they are all massive apple fans, well most of them are

(Sep 27 '10 at 02:22) Tim Fontana Tim%20Fontana's gravatar image

A lot of my friends are Apple fans as well. I might buy an inexpensive Mac to experiment with, but my love will always be for the near-infinite customization options of the PC.

And I just realized that I totally missed the word "old" in the original question. D'oh
