Hi, so my iTunes wasn't cooperating with my CD/DVD drive. So I followed iTunes' forum and went into Regedit and deleted the wrong upper and lower filter. So now my Windows 7 machine freezes randomly (I haven't found any similarities between each one) by freezing I mean, "Microsoft Windows" freezes, I can move my mouse but can't do anything else. Is there a way to fix this without having to use the restore disk?

[Added] It works enough where I can back up everything in case I do have to restore the computer. But I don't want to have to hassle with that if I don't have to.

try doing a system restore. Windows may have backup up the previous versions of registry.

Also, next time, create a registry backup before doing those actions...

Okay, I'll back up my computer and try that.

I meant creating a backup before deleting registries

Yeah, but I can't do that now, I already deleted the filter. So I'm gonna have to back up my files and just run the restore

There isn't a huge need to backup your computer if you are just doing a system restore. I mean, it can't hurt but it isn't necessary. He meant a backup of the registry. To do this, in the file menu of regedit, click on export and name it before you change anything. This way, if you mess things up, you can just run the backup and it will restore whatever setting you changed.

If it won't let you do the restore, boot into safe mode and do the restore.

XP: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Vista / 7: Type "System Restore" into the search box and open it.

There is no need to backup, just select a date that was before you changed the registry and restore it. This won't change any of your files, just the system configuration.
