What are the main differences between free versions of antivirus and paid versions ?( like avg .....) is there a difference in the data base or the way of scanning ? do personal users get the same protections as the commercialized client ? Thanks you |

I have been running Microsoft Security Essentials since January and it has worked great for me. Totally free and has real time protection against viruses and spyware. No firewall though, which makes sense considering Windows has a firewall built into it. I would still keep a 3rd party anti-spyware program around though. |

With AVG the paid version comes with a suite: Antivirus, Anti Spyware, Firewall, etc. The free version is Antivirus only. I think others do this way as well. |

Paid ones lately, like another user said, they are security suits AV+ Firewall+ AntySpyware+ Anti Spam etc. I used to pay for Avast Internet Security, It's the best for me out there with a sandbox(the only existing for 64 bits) and Gaming mode, until it expired and decided not to pay anymore, I think paid antivirus should be just for Companies, Developers, Your job depends on it,etc, I am a normal user there for I am aiming for Avast free ed :P, Currently testing Kaspersky, has amazing load of stuff, but I don't need most of it, so changing to free avast later :) |

Who needs antivirus? I know how to recognize a virus, and thus, even though I rarely run antivirus programs, I have never gotten a Windows virus, although things have tried to hit me with them. But I do have Kaspersky on my system, because my mom used to work there and I get disks for free. It's great to be me. |

Checkout Sunbelt Software. They offer a fully operational 30 free trial AntiVirus and AntiVirus Firewall verison. This S/W (VIPRE) is GREAT, really. I know there is a lot of choices for good AV however, Try this test, load what ever you are considering to test what it finds. Then run VIPRE and see what the other didn't find or fix. |
