Hello fellow geeks. I have been using free app on my Mac called VirtualBox which many of you may have heard off. I use it to run Ubuntu and Windows and am wondering if it is worth getting a paid app such as VM Ware or Parallels? What is the benefit of the paid apps? Why are they paid and VirtualBox free? I would really appreciate your help with this. Thank you. Alex |

I would say yes. I have tried VirtualBox and had a lot of problems. With VMWare Fusion (I don't know about Parallels, as I hae never used it) it runs faster, easier to use, and makes sharing folders EXTREMELY easy. My favourite thing about it is "Unity" which allows me to run Windows programs on OSX as if they were OSX native. Example:
(Notice how notepad even shows up in the dock, as if it was running in OSX) But I would suggest doing your own research before making any purchase. |

NO. not worth getting VMWare. I had it for my mac (which I sold) and i find it is no different than virtualbox in any way, shape,or form. I have a friend who owns a mac and Parallels, and it looks no different either. dont waste your 100$, just use virtualbox. its the exact same thing. They are paid versions b/c in the world of macs, the people who use them seem to be used to overpriced equipment, and therefore, they think they can charge absurd amounts for it. which they can. |
