Has there ever been, or ever will be, a 10 TB Hard Drive? |
|
Ask this question in five years, and see how much space ten terabytes would be. I'm sure that in five years, ten terabytes would be worth about 250 GB is to us currently. 250 GB is still a decent amount of space, but it seems to shrink every day. That is almost exactly what I was going to say. Ask it in 3 years... maybe less than that if I were to ask you 2 years ago would you even know what a TB was much less think that in 2 years we would have 3 TB ones. Well, about every six months, they add half of a terabyte to a terabyte to a total hard drive's capacity. So with my math, it ends up being about four-five years. Ya, that seems to be about right. Speaking of 250GB, my laptop's hard drive of that capacity is nearly full.

I don't know. Here is some history about them, maybe you can guess when they come out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_hard_disk_drives |

I have 10 TB now, spread out over 8 physical drives. With the price coming down all the time and USB 3.0 available, external will probably be the norm. I remember being at the Shack back in the 80's and asking about drives larger than 10MB. I was told I would never need that much space! Now 1 photo will take up that much. Ah, progress. |

There will definitely be a 10TB HDD, it's just a matter of time. |
