I want to get the most my money's worth out of the iPad. In order to do that, I want to bring it EVERYWHERE. But, is it sensible to bring my iPad into Target? To a sporting event? To the movies? To church? Where is it NOT sensible or appropriate? |

Yeah, I do bring my iPad everywhere. Sure, I could surf the net on my Blackberry (with its sucky browser), but I'd prefer to have a more wholesome surfing experience whenever I need it, wherever I need it. I use it as my personal calender and note taking device as well - being a wannabe author, I always take care to jot down any flashes of inspirations on my iPad. If I'm lucky, I might even get to squeeze some extra time out to continue working on my works. That being said, I would still not bring it to wherever it's not welcome. (Not that I know of any such place yet) The gadgets on you are only as good as how much you get to use it; if you're not gonna feel comfortable whipping your iPad out because your fellow church-goers will stare and shake their heads at your "socially unacceptable behavior", then let's face it - carrying the iPad with you, then, would just be akin to holding a 1.5lb brick in your hand (albeit a slim and sexy-looking brick. But that's not the point =P). Of course, admittedly, the iPad is a device more commonly seen as a tool for entertainment than tool for productivity. That kinda explains why some teachers prefer laptops to iPads. That being said, as people get more exposed to the wonders of the iPad, it's sure to be more welcomed around your neighborhood, your office and your classroom. |

Yes, but I go old school. I have a Palm Lifedrive that I carry everywhere. It has my calander (medication record), SlashShopper, WiFi browser, and even ebooks. Who needs a Kindle. I have been reading eBooks for decades. I can listen to music by MP3 or Livestream. My only complaint is that Palm dropped this after only a year. They really let me down. When this one dies, I don't know what I will do. |
