Im trying to connect the external monitor but the cable does not seem to fit? Can this one be for the macbook pro? Is there a difference?

I may be wrong but if the adapter you're using is older I don't think it will fit into the new Macs, even though they look almost identical

on the package it says to be from 2008. Thanks for the help anyways :)

Are you completely positive that the cables that you are plugging in are the right ones. This is Mini DVI:


The following picture is a Mac Mini with both Mini DVI and Mini DisplayPort which is properly labeled.


Just make sure that the cords that you are plugging in are the same ones.
