Hey guys! I'm happy as hell! Finaly, about three hours ago, I got my iPad, but I encountered a problem: I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 in my primary machine, where I have my music and stuff... Is there any way I could sync my iPad with this PC, or I'll need to install windows?

Please answer... TOO MUCH STRESS!

Thanks in advance.

You cannot sync any iPod or iOS device on an operating system other than Windows or Mac OS X using iTunes. You will have to install Windows on your PC in order to sync it with iTunes.

I'm not sure if it's possible with iTunes, but you could try and install it with WineHQ

It says that Ubuntu supports the iDevices out-of-the-box, but I think that's not true, at least with the iPad... When I plug in my iPad to my laptop with ubuntu, the iPad starts ringing, and it does not stops until I unplug it... Ubuntu doesn't even recognize it as an external drive, as it did with my iPod nano... Any suggestions on this?

Apple removed the hard disk transformation function in the devices that run iOS because they want the operating system to be locked down to avoid frustration, and because they don't promote the installation of your own applications without security certificates... because someone could, according to them, cause a "Denial of Service attack on the network towers." So that's why you're not seeing it display.

You can try to install iTunes with "Wine". Wine is a Ubuntu extension which applies a filter onto the OS which lets you run and install Windows applications.

I haven't tried it myself, but it's worth a shot

Try syncing through spotify for linux. I dont know if it will work, it does with ipods. But it is still in beta, so you may have to find something else

Why don't you just use VMware and have Windows in a virtual machine? All you would need to do then is share your music library folder with the VM and use itunes.
