I personaly use Microsoft Security Essentials, which is free with any registered version of a microsoft OS. Compaired to many of the other antivirus programs, the resorces of your machine that is uses are much less.

Microsoft Security Essentials!! MICROSOFT SECURITY ESSENTIALS!!! Would you like to see this screenshot? http://bit.ly/cRqD5S nearly 13 hours into a scan and it's not even half done!

Buy a better computer? it shouldn't be that slow unless you are hammered with a crap load of stuff that is slowing it down. Could be time to reinstall windows for you.

The BEST and most RELIABLE that I have found is Microsoft Security Essentials, it doesn't take up many processes and is light on your system and it has a active monitor to help when you are surfing online.

AVG overall, and Avast if you want it to run smoothly. At least with my experiences.

Ive used a variety of anti-virus software over the years, such as Bitdefender, AVG, Norton and even virgin media PC guard (yuck) but the best in my opinion is AVG. Alot of anti-virus software claim they don't take up many resources but a found a few of them seem to do, but not AVG. That's probably not the case, but that's what i felt.

I use MSE on all my computers and I've never had a problem. + RAM usage is low. Also, I figure Microsoft know their OS and the viruses it has best.
