Exporting mail from Windows Live Mail to Apple Mail

My friend recently switched to Mac from using a Windows Vista machine. I helped him transfer everything over from the PC except email. I researched this and found that you could use Mozilla Thunderbird to import the email from Windows LIve Mail and then export it to the mbox format which is what Apple Mail accepts. There is is an Add-on for Thunderbird that let's you do this called ImpotExportTools. I tried for about an hour last night with no luck.

Currently, there is no way to export to mbox from within Windows Live Mail. You can only export to an Exchange server and Windows Live Mail.

Could someone help me point me in the right direction?
