Halloween is soon upon us. But how old is too old? Should high school students be allowed to go around asking for candy? I stopped when I reached middle school. Just curious. :)

It's not a tradition where I am from, but I don't think it should have an age limit. You could always go with your younger sister, or brother, or cousin, or.... People would just think you're looking after them. ;)

When you're older it's more about the nostalgia and the "feeling", not so much about the candy I think.

True. I started taking by two younger brothers around after I stopped going for myself. Hey, I'm 23 and I still dress up every year! lol

I'll never stop!!! Even if I am a little too old.. Doesn't mean I cant dress up for the family and the younglings. :)

Nice. Reminds me of The Nightmare Before Christmas! My girlfriend and I are going as pirates!

I am not doing it again this year like I have done for the last 3 years. But I usually go to my friends house, and we play games, and walk around and look at peoples costumes. We are in costume the entire time. So a age limit? Well I am going to say 18. It would be odd for a 40 year old guy walking up to your house saying "Trick or Treat".

True. 40 might be a bit too old lol. Although my dad sometimes goes around to his friends house to see if they will give anything. Usually they don't. But that could be because he asks for random things in their house like lamps, rugs, tables...etc

My mother never let me trick or treat. Now that I have the freedom to do it if I wanted, not once have I ever wanted to.

If you have kids do you think you would let them? Or would it be their choice?

(Oct 13 '10 at 07:55) Steven Hibbs Steven%20Hibbs's gravatar image

I would probably let them choose, after all it is all just a bit of fun!

I usually find an excuse to go, because I like candy. So I'll dress up as a dentist, or a tax collecter, or even once, a baby.

Nice! Love the dentist and tax collector idea lol. Not so sure about the baby!

When to stop 'dressing up in costumes & begging for candy door-to-door' should be an individual's choice. If the neighborhoods are safe & young kids being chaperoned, I see no reason to set a cut off age. If I get tagged for chaperone duty, I usually put on a costume. This year, I've been invited to a few Halloween Parties. I'll try to make an appearance at all of them =0p...

Agreed. I know it's all dependent on individual circumstances. I think Halloween Parties for adults (especially costume required ones) are a way for "big kids" to still enjoy the holiday...without being too creepy. lol

I haven't gone since like 6th grade, but I live in like hick town country, so there aren't that many houses to go to anyway. For an age limit, I'd say you shouldn't go if you're over like 16, unless you're actually going to have fun. If you're just going to get food from people, that isn't all that fun anyway.

However. I've considered going this year as an IRS collector and just taking 30% of their candy and walking away. That would be fun.

I think 30% is very fair!

I have to admit, even as a former chaperon, I would still get just as much candy as the kids I was escorting. lol
