I want to know about how long it takes from when you click install to when you are finished.

It takes about 30-60 minutes on average for me depending on what computer I'm using.

I've got a moderate machine: Intel Core2Duo dual core @ 3GHz, 4 GB DDR2. It actually took me 20-30 minutes to install Ubuntu 10.10.

To be honest it only took like 30 min when I installed it in Virtual Box while Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit was running as the host. My specs are: Intel ViiV(Pentium D) @2.8 GHz, 2 GB of DDR2. I think I gave to Virtual Machine like 700 MB of ram.

You know, I think that the installation time is really more dependent on the method of installation more than specs. I'm guessing that you installed it from an optical medium? I installed from CD.

I just watched a video of a guy installing it from start to finish from a USB stick and the video was 11 minutes long. This was including a manual grub edit after the install and running update manager.

That could be because I installed it directly from the iso file on my hard drive.

Did you burn it to a CD/DVD? Maybe it's a bad burn.

Good luck! As stated it is a fast paced install (20-30 minutes). It doesn't take that long to get from the starting loading screen. If you choose to pull updates automatically from online or to pull down additional packages or whatever it will extend the time. For a basic install, it's reasonable for installation time.
