in previous versions you were able to right click on the device in iTunes and then back up your iPhone or iPod.. now that seems not to be there.. they claim that when you update or when you sync it backs up your device automatically.. well thats not the case with me i ended up having to restore my iPhone 4 yesterday with my iPhone 3gS backup file that was there since June.. yes i lost my messages and my pictures that was taken with the iPhone 4.. Is there a method i can use to select when i want to save a back up file and restore when I want? |

This is how i did it i found my own answer---> C:UsersusernameAppDataRoamingApple ComputeriTunes You want to edit the iTunesPrefs.XML file with an XML editor (I used notepad ++). Make sure you make a backup of the file before editing just in case you accidently delete something important. In the file, search for "backup" it will come to a section that displays: Code:
Deleted that and save. Open iTunes and it will ask a couple questions like when you installed iTunes the first time. THE MUCH MORE EASIER METHOD: Just download a free software that turns it 'on AND off' Get a free one called "BACKOFF" it will turned your itunes "backup" back on, its useful than hacking itunes pref files. you can turn it off again to speed some syncing. ON again if you're desperate to make a backup point i.e if you're rejailing breaking. |

This problem sometimes happens. It happened with me a while ago. Re-installing iTunes works. So just uninstall it then re-download and re-install. |
