UPDATE - I USE WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM!!

I was on the internet the other day with my HP G61 Notebook PC - and it crashed on me. I had multiple programs running like;

  • Safari
  • Adobe Photoshop CS5
  • Adobe Dreamweaver CS4
  • FileZilla
  • Camtasia Studio Rendering Process

My laptop has 3.2 GB of RAM, and then before my computer shut down on me, I checked the performance tab in the task manager and it said it was using 2.9 GB or RAM.

Is there any way to virtually extend the RAM so I don't have to buy more RAM or nothing like that.

Thanks!!

Go to start and right click on computer. Then click properties->Advanced System Settings->Settings(Under Performance)->Advanced tab->Change(Under virtual memory.)

Do you run Windows Vista/7? If so you can buy a "ReadyBoost" certified USB drive, which can be used specifically to add RAM to the computer. This is the cheapest method, however performance might suffer. You should look into the maximum RAM allowed by your motherboard and think about doubling it to 6 GBs. Granted, you'll need to run a 64 bit version of Windows but it'll help tremendously.

4GBs is good enough, heck 3GBs is good enough. In my opinion 6 is just overkill, and really doesn't make a comparable difference from 4GBs.

Easy, just press start, type "advanced system settings" (without quotations). After that go to settings under performance Performance > then go to advanced > Click Change. If it's set to "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" uptick it to change the virtual page file size. Remember, the bigger the file, the more space it takes up on your computer. What the file does is essentially used as a cache location for ram.
