VOIP has become widely popular the past couple of months with the increasing amount of people owning microphones and webcams. I myself have starting using VOIP about two years ago. I started with Skype and then went onto Google Talk, then back to Skype, and right now I am back to Google Talk.

Right now I am kind of on the midpoint of both products. I know Skype is used by most if not everyone on the internet, but when I look at it; is it really worth it? I know computer to computer calling is 100% free, but what about computer to phone calling, doesn't that cost money? I feel sorry for all these people using Skype; they're calling phones and are paying the money that they really don't need to pay since Google Talk calls phone for free within Gmail.

One thing that is a huge factor in my choice between Skype and Google Talk is the download. I know that Skype isn't that big of a download, but you don't have an option; it is almost like you are forced to download THEIR client. With Google Talk you can download and use pretty much ANY chat client that you want, heck you can even chat in your web browser without the need to download anything!

To my opinion I think Google Talk is better than Skype, but it just doesn't seem like many people use it. When I used Skype two years ago, no one used it. Now that I use Google Talk it seems that no one is using that and everyone is using Skype.

When it comes to comparing these two products together which one do you think is best and why? And which one are you using right now?

I prefer Skype, because it's more widely used, but I like the feature in Google where you can call real phones for free. Google talk has let me connect with other people who don't use Skype. So all in all, each one serves it's own purpose, and I love each one of them.

I am going to say Skype. THe audio quality is amazing and even supports video chatting with 10 people. The service is incredible and it is nice to have a different application besides a Google product.

I prefer Skype. I think it's because most of the people i talk to online are on Skype, and becuase I've been using it so long I don't want to switch to anything else. I love the new Gmail calling to phone feature though.

In my personal opinion, Skype rules over Google Talk. Yes, Google Talk is becoming more popular, but Skype still has the majority of the Internet Users. Skype is more widely used with personal talking and also business talking. Google Talk, maybe become more popular then Skype, but at this point in time, I feel as if Skype as the higher hand. So in my opinion, Skype wins :P

I use Skype when my friends are online. I use Talk when they aren't because I can text them, and when people message me first.
