I got a new charger for my computer a few weeks back since my old one got chewed up by the animals, but now my computer wont charge. It keeps telling me it can't detect the battery. Turned it off, took the battery out and unplugged it, then put the battery back in, and I even did it while it was on and plugged in, and the computer just tells me that it can't recognize the battery and asks me to plug in a Dell battery. The problem is that this is the battery that came with the computer. :/ Here are my specs in case they might help.

Windows Vista Home Basic Service Pack 2

Manufacturer: Dell
Model: Inspiron 1501
Rating: 3.1 Windows Experience
Processor: Mobile AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3500+ 1.80 GHz
Memory (RAM): 1.00
System type: 32-bit Operating System

There are a couple problems that this could be. If you bought an off brand charger, the laptop may see that and will not charge the battery. Or, your battery may have gone bad. This generally happens after a year or so of pretty heavy use, that is why Dell only warranty's the batteries for a year. If you plug the charger in and your battery light flashes orange in a pattern, then you have a bad battery.
