So, I just upgraded my motherboard, and the built-in ethernet speed is insanely fast, now. I can now watch 1080p on youtube without interruption. Is my new motherboard increasing the internet speed, or is it just a coincidence?

It is not your motherboard increasing the internet speed. The internet speed is controlled by your ISP. It may be that the hardware acceleration on the motherboard is helping the video without dropping frames and other problems
