Since heat accelerates the ware and tare process on batteries while charging, I place a small 70mm fan on top of the charger and run it at a low speed so it is pretty much silent but it keeps the batteries cool through out the charge process. (I have been doing this for a while now (first started when I got my rayovac charger about 6 years ago, I have since then upgraded to a sony battery charger and moved from a louder 80mm thermaltake, to a quieter though smaller fan that came with my heatsink)

PS my rayovac batteries still hold a charge though in my digital camera they only offer slightly more shots than a standard alkaline battery.
