Most of my classes in my high-school have one of these:
A SmartBoard, which is basically a giant touch-screen, for a computer. It isn't really a screen, a projector is used. So I was wondering what other schools may use, other than just computers. Or does your school still use good ol' fashion chalkboards? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The only thing I would LOVE for schools to use, is E-Readers, instead of text-books. |

My secondary school had them in every room. Now I am at college only some do. The college has plenty of computers and thankfully plenty of Mac's. I would like iPads for everyone! |

Our school have about 30 new desktops in the library, and I.T Classroom with soon to be another 32, and each student is given the option to rent a school laptop. We also have a few G5 iMacs, but they are rather painful running snow leopard, and all our schools network bloatware. we also have interactive whiteboards in every classroom and every teacher has being provided with an HP probook. our Head once mentioned an iPad scheme where we all have iPads VNC'ing to a windows xp machine, but we pointed out that that would not only A) put the IT Repair guys out of business, and B) it would be like any situation with teens, when something gets old, they don;t want it and don't look after it as well, and with apple updating every year then it would be a problem. Also The laptops we rented when I was in yr 7 through 9 were awful, worth about £380, although the school will have bought them in bulk, and the school had us paying £36 a month for just over 3 years: came to about £1.3k, and on top of that we had to pay if we broke the screen, that was £100 and casing damage was a £30-£40 insurance charge, all in all the system can work, but with my schools implementation, it doesn't and another thing that causes a problem is the fact we had hard drives, we can store games, films, and other distractions there, with us in lessons, I could even tether my phone and text and freely browse the internet via bluetooth, and it wasn't obvious, no cable. |
