Lately, I've been considering getting a Mac Mini to experiment and get some experience in the world of Mac. I've used OSX before and enjoyed it, even though Windows 7 is still my favorite OS. I was just wondering if it would be a good idea to buy a Mac Mini for experimentation to go along with my main custom Windows machines. What do you all think?

I think it would be good. It is a little expensive for a expirement though.

It would also have a secondary use as my HTPC since it's fully capable of streaming 1080p

It took me awhile to convince myself to spend the extra money on a Mac, but I have not regretted it yet.

OSX is a beautiful piece of software, and you will love every second you use it. And, if you want, you can partition the Mac with Windows, so you can have both OSs running on the same computer.

I think that you should go for it. It doesn't matter that Windows is your most favorite OS right now - that doesn't mean that you can't enjoy the Mac. You may even find OS X better. It's good to have a bit of change once in a while. Good luck!

Yes, all OS have their strong suits, and as any person can figure out but, honestly I got a MacBookPro and I am in love with it. From the moment you turn it on you can feel the quality, To the point I am trying to get my whole family to give Mac a Chance. My mother is set in her ways and is as any stubborn as they come, but she even realizes how much MacOSX has to offer for the whole family. I told my mom... "Once you go Mac, you'll never go back"

That's another part of why I'm doing this. I used to hate on Macs without giving them a fair chance, but now I'm willing to try it out. If I like it enough, I might swap out my gaming PC for a Mac Pro.

Instead of buying a new Mac Mini, you could get a Mac Mini G4 and install it into a 5.25" Bay of a Windows PC

You could also buy a Macintosh PowerPC and install a Windows PC into a 5.25 Bay of the Macintosh PowerPC =0p...

Speaking in detail about building Hack!ntoshes is taboo here, but I do recommend doing some research. You'll save money, and have a Custom Built Quad-Core Mac Pro with better specs. =0p...

This is one of those questions that only you can really answer. You already know that PC's and Windows are your main computers. You think you want a Mac around for something different, whatever.

Seems like you may have answered your own question.

Of course it is. You should not just limit yourself to one operating system. Admittedly I had my first windows PC at the age of 3 (now nearly 18) and I got my first Mac just under a year ago. Mac is now my primary and most liked OS.

Update: Out of curiosity, I finally broke down and headed to the nearest Apple store to give the display Macs my first fair, unbiased try. I was blown away. What would be considered a low-end PC (13-inch Macbook Pro) ran OSX beautifully will all the eye candy turned on. I loved using them after finally giving them a real chance. Definitely switching.

Yes, I am mainly a PC (Windows) user, but I own a MacBook Pro. It's perfectly okay! I only use Windows to play the games I have bought over the years

I'm seriously considering saving loads of cash to move to Mac, Windows is so.. bland nowadays.

Sure I love Windows 7, it's a reallllyy great operating system - but OSX is one of a kind. And of course, Apple hardware is beautiful.
