A question about a student bypassing blocks in school was recently closed because "We don't discuss means to circumvent security." My question is if an ethical hacker asked a question about hacking a network would the question still be closed by an admin/mod? The question would not be illegal as a company would be hiring him/her for penetration testing.

Hacking can be ethical, in fact, the true nature of a hacker is not a harmful monster, but an avid learner. I hate to see the word "hacker" being used as demeaning. A former student of my university is a hacker, he found a vulnerability in the 2Wire routers that ISP's gave you when hiring internet service, he told them (2Wire), they didn't listen. So he announced it in DEFCON (the first one, Pedro Joaquin). 2Wire was pissed off, but they asked him to let them know the details so it could be fixed, and now it's fixed. So hacking is very cool, and can be used for good purposes. Saying hackers are all bad persons is ignorant. No one said they're all bad. See my answer below. Not here, but trust me there are many people who do believe that (more than the people who believe they can be good) :( |
