How do I reset my Lexmark ink cartridge?
I have a Lexmark printer that uses Lexmark number 100 ink. I have found the chip on the ink cartridge but how do I reset it? I have refilled the cartridge but it still says its empty so thats why I need to reset it.

I really don't think that there is a way to reset the ink cartridge. Unless this might help you: http://www.ehow.com/how___6028377_reset-lexmark-ink-level-message.html From what I have found there is a fuse type thing inside of the cartridge and that trips/pops when the ink runs out preventing further usage of the ink cartridge.

The new lexmark ink cartridges have what looks like an RFID chip under the top labels. I am currently experimenting with ANY possible ways to make these stupid things work. The Chips under the labels I have found are of at least 3 different designs. I think Lexmark may have us by the CHIPS, such as it is.

I tried several methods from swapping in old several old cartridges before the refilled one (in case the printer only registerd the last 3 to 5 cartridges) to taking out all the cartridges and powering the printer on and off 5 times with no cartridges to clear memory...Nothing worked so far.

Some cartridges have a unique id number that the printer reads and memorizes. (not sure if it applies to more modern printers, but in the past you could swap 5 cartridges to reset a 6th one to read 100% again)
Other than that, if it maintains a larger list then it is best to see if you can still print even if the printer is reporting them as empty (eg my canon ink cartridges have been seen as empty by the printer for nearly 6 months but the are still working for occasional prints. (I just have to do the swing trick every once in a while (take the cartridge out and with the nozzle facing away from you, swing it or do a good throwing motion (like you were about to itch a baseball, but do not let go) (that usually gets me another 10 pages or so.
(I wish they would stop using a sponge the hold the ink in the cartridges)
