I'm making a site that may attract a lot of traffic. What are the recommended specs?

I want it to be reliable. Would it slow down my broadband connection? Thanks!

Well it depends on what you are using the server for, if you are going to be using it for a lot of data transferring then I would have a good processor and no less than 2gb ram

How much do you have to spend?

How Big Will the site be?

Will the site need much storage on it?

Is Space an issue?

What type of site is it?

If people are to use the site it will need your broadband connection and the site and your connection may be slow at times of peak usgae.

Get back to me, but to start with, I would recommend a hosting service from GoDaddy or someone like that.

If you tell me a Price then I can find you the best build for what you need.

Email me on support@ttfixes.co.uk for a quicker response

Here is the build: It is slightly higher than the price you specified but worth the extra £20

I presume you know how to build computers?

220 Pounds i am willing to spend. The site COULD be big. Space is not too much of an issue. The site type i cannot say but it will involve users. I want my own web server as it is more convenient.

If I were you I'd go with Linux, it's simple to operate for servers. Apache is a great bit of software for hosting. You'll need to install other packages such as PHP, MySQL etc. depending on what you've used to make your site.

i would get off site hosting then if your server does not meet the requirement you can upgrade. observing does not take much power unless you have a lot of users online at the same time.

also hosting a website on your home broadband account is not a good idea and some times wont work. ISPs often block incoming access in that manor because they want to sell you a business line package. also dynamic IP addresses may make it difficult to host with. However, the larger issue is security when you do that, you will have to give people access to your network and a person with a less than ethical mindset can do harm to your network.

bottom line to what I'm saying is, if you have to ask, host off-site.

i think you should rent atleast to start, go daddy has some nice packages and i have not had any issues with them, plus they now feature unlimited bandwidth on all the accounts :)

Also when considering and researching something like a web server, make sure you take into account horizontal and vertical scaling. That is one thing a lot of people forget about when choosing a webserver, and in the end it could have the potential for problems.
