I mean, you always hear in the media (via tv, movies, etc.) about how it's sort of traditional for some families to send their child that just graduated high school "backpacking" across Europe... sort of as a spiritual journey to find yourself, or something? But how does that really work? Are you essentially homeless during that time or what? Or do you go off with thousands of dollars for hotels? How are you suppose to get there..or back? I'm not considering doing this, I was just curious as to what "backpacking across Europe" really entailed.

well..i would think you would get a backpack..put some stuff in it (clothes snacks money) and walk around Europe. personally,I would much rather bike around Europe, something which I seriously plan on doing ehen i get older.
Edit : now that i think about it..its sound awesome!!

You would stay in hostels mainly and travel on trains. :) You can buy a train ticket for about $600 euro a month and you can go anywhere in Europe nearly ;)
I plan to go to 25 different country's over 6 months in 2 years :)
