A recently bought a MacBook Pro and I want to keep it running fast. I always notice that Youtube is a little slower. What can I do to make sure my computer will run fast and not slow down??

Give it Gatorade. And cheer it on!

Okay. Time to be more serious. All you have to do it not download viruses. Run virus scans. Delete viruses. Don't download a ton of programs. Uninstall unneeded programs. Clean out the trash bin. Delete unnecessary files. Dont install 35,000 fonts (you will never use all of them!).Don't hack it. And defrag the hard drive (if you want/can on a Mac).

You don't need to defrag non-Macs, either.

We have an Einstein. Tell the boys at Apple who are in charge of OSX development your idea, would you?

Run scan disk & then disk defragmenter. Run a full virus scan if it’s been awhile since you last did that.

Get all your software updates.

You could empty your browsers temp & history files but then that clears out that your logged in to web sites & all the sites you visit, So doing that can be inconvenient to say the least.

He's on a Mac. You don't defragment a Mac's hard drive, because it's never needed. The way that it stores files keeps it from becoming fragmented.

Don't screw with system-hacking apps. I tried one that was supposed to change the color of finder windows, and I didn't read that it was for Leopard only and NOT for Snow Leopard and I ended up with my system slowly collapsing on itself until I found how to fix it and got into the system through the network and replaced the corrupted file with a working one. Before that, I tried taking a Time Machine backup and restoring my whole system. That didn't work. Then I had double the space being taken up for no reason. Then I used DaisyDisk and found out that it was a backup of EVERYTHING connected at the time PLUS the HD, so I just deleted everything I had put on, and I had an almost clean HD!

Long story short, be smart, don't screw with the system, and it will stay fast.

For PC users that are beginners or experts - download "Advanced System Care" at: http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscareper.html

Set it to run during idle time, this is an amazing little piece of software that does a great job cleaning up junk files, cleaning your registry and freeing up memory. My PC runs fantastic since I installed it. It is worth the money $12.98 special to get the professional version. I am not affiliated at all with this company!

Allowing any program to play arouund in a computer registry is a bad, bad idea :)

Messing with things in the registry DOES NOT speed up a computer. Ever. Period.

to keep your computer running fast try the following :

  • Disk Clean up
  • Disk Defrag

those are the only ones i can think of right now, other than that the only other thing i can think of is adding more RAM to your system.
