It would be too expensive to double the pixels on the ipad, but the resolution on the iPad will increase with the next generation

If Apple would add a retina display to the iPad the price would go hugenormous. It would be ridiculously expensive and useless in the long range, so no. But I believe that they would increase the pixels in the new generations.

no retina is a lot on the iphone. retina on a screen 5 times the size would be ridonculusss. Also the iphone retina display is 75% of the ipads pixels shoved into something 5 times smaller. Take that and times it by 5. It would look better than amazing but cost more than my dads paycheck (and thats a lot) Truthfully, you would need more than 40 million pixels.

40 million pixels would be nice. Currently even my desktop only has 12.4 million.

Do you mean all of your screens put together?

The Retina Display on the iPad would be higher res than my 27" iMac (2560x1440). An increase is possible but not to retina levels.
