Do you mean the modem or the service?? The modems don't really have any major differences. If you are comparing services, which I assume you are, I would say DSL. I may be a bit biased because I have DSL and have never personally had cable. DSL is your own personal line and doesn't depend on other users too much. But for cable, if I am correct, the speed depends on how many users are on. Also, I have heard that cable users lose service more often then DSL users.

Cable can supply you with much more bandwidth if you are paying for a fast connection. But cable doesn't have as consistent of a connection as DSL (So sometimes the speed can be faster than other times.)
